Located in South-East Barrie, this is a home-based studio with a comfortable and fun environment for kids and parents. I specialize in making lessons fun for kids, but I also teach all ages right up to adult-learners.

 

 Piano lessons should never be a chore.  I aim to keep students motivated and entertained so they want to keep learning and look forward to their next lesson!

Hello!  My name is Susan Hensley and I am a Royal Conservatory of Music teacher.

 

Here's a secret about me...I hated piano lessons when I was a kid. My teacher yelled at me.  I was nervous for every lesson and dreaded going. So, it may be strange for me to say that one of the best things my parents gave me as a child was piano lessons.

 

I started when I was 8 years old and I was a fast-learner, but there were many times when I wanted to quit.  What kept me going?  Seeing my dad sitting at the piano poking at the keys, talking about how he always wished he could have learned to play.  It was a regret for him, and it felt like he was living vicariously through me.  So I kept going for him, and then I kept going for both of us.  Eventually I discovered that I love playing the piano.  Throughout my life it has been a source of entertainment,  challenge, and solace.  The skill I learned as a child has added meaning and depth to my adult life.  

 

After a lengthy Corporate career it was time to rediscover the things that I'm passionate about in life, and this is one of them.  I vow to always strive to make lessons fun for students.  No one should be nervous or uncomfortable. Everyone should have the chance to learn in a happy and safe environment.  Time to pass on my passion for piano to another generation...
